Brief Description:

San Carlos Flight Center invites all women pilots, controllers, mechanics, and technicians to join us at our next Fly Like a Girl meeting.  This month’s topic continues our investigation into women in the aviation industry with guest speaker Captain Lynn Austin of Delta Airlines, who help share with us lessons learned in commercial aviation.

Commercial aviation has come a long way in the last few decades.  Most people consider the changes from the viewpoint of a passenger, like in-flight WiFi, wide-body aircraft, and fully reclining first class seats.  Today’s pilots know there is another side of the equation – the dedicated professionals sitting up front, shouldering the responsibility of everyone onboard.  Fly Like a Girl, SCFC’s women pilot group, is hosting a series of Meet the Industry presentations to share the stories of the women changing the face of aviation

On November 9th, the women of SCFC welcome Captain Lynn Austin for an informal discussion about the challenges and highlights of her career.  She will share with us the highlights of her journey into the cockpit of a major airline, and discuss what it takes to become a Captain at Delta Airlines.  How much training was required to become a First Officer?  What in-cockpit safety training happens during a normal flight?  How often does a pilot redo simulator emergency training and how effective is it?  With questions from the women in the audience, together we will share our thoughts on how lessons from commercial aviation can trickle down to general aviation pilots.
