Rick Luke's Biography:

• Rick Luke was born and raised in Bellingham, graduating from Bellingham High School in 1972. He attended Skagit Valley Community College before he was hired by the city of Bellingham as a police dispatcher. He later worked in Whatcom County Jail before being hired as a police officer. Rick retired as a motorcycle traffic officer in January 2009 after 35 years with the city.

Rick loves to fly and he earned his private pilot's license when he was 17. Over the course of years he has added commercial, sea, instrument, multi-engine, flight instructor, ground instructor and ATP ratings. In 1989 Rick became the FAA-designated pilot examiner for this area, an occupation he continues in retirement. In 2003 he was named Flight Instructor of the Year and was inducted into the Washington State Aviation Hall of Fame.

He is an active member of Christ Lutheran Church and volunteers with Interfaith Coalition. He and his wife, Linda, enjoy traveling, both nationally and internationally. They have been Mount Baker Theatre members and season ticket holders for many years, and love sharing theater experiences with family and friends. Rick has two daughters and three grandchildren.

Rick expects to spend some of his retirement time flying airplanes.  He has had his pilots license since 1971.  He has been designated by the FAA as a Pilot Examiner since 1981 and will continue with that work in addition to several planned trips abroad with his wife.

Bellingham Police Chief Todd Ramsay quoted; "Officer Luke is a great example of a dedicated officer whose career focus was on serving our community in the capcity of traffic safety. He was keenly tuned to the traffic issues in the neighborhoods he served and developed a fine reputation as an officer who is responsive to the citizens of Bellingham."
