Title:
Flying over New York City- The New York City Bay Tour
Topic:
Flying over New York City- The New York City Bay Tour
Date and Time:
Wednesday, August 17, 2016, starting at 19:00 Pacific Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Larson Holt
Brief Description:

Manhattan in New York City is one of the most picturesque and popular tourist destinations in the United States. Every day, hundreds of pilots and passengers experience the island of 8 million people from above, negotiating high winds, skyscrapers, narrow river corridors, and wake turbulence.

The Hudson and East River Class B Exclusion Special Flight Rules Areas (SFRAs) and the airspace surrounding New York City are some of the most complex and heavily trafficked VFR corridors in the United States. Strict rules exist to separate transient fixed-wing operations, Manhattan-bound helicopter flights, and jet traffic inbound to JFK, LaGuardia and Newark airports. Join SCFC pilot and almost-New Yorker Larson Holt for a review of the history and layout of the Hudson and East River SFRAs to prepare you for a flight over the Big Apple.

Larson Holt is a high-performance endorsed private pilot who learned to fly at SCFC. When he isn't flying a bay tour or working SCFC's front desk, he attends Columbia University in New York City.
