INSTRUCTIONS: Sign up for the 1.5 hour classroom session either on Friday, or Saturday morning, then sign up for ONE PROTE (altitude chamber) flight. Each flight lasts 15 minutes. If you cannot make a classroom session, you may still sign up for a 15 minute chamber flight, but you will not get the full benefit of the training.

The symptoms of hypoxia vary from person to person, often occur without warning, and can be deadly. Experiencing these symptoms helps pilots know how to react if encountered during flight. The PROTE provides a ground-based excursion to 25,000 ft, simulating altitude by reducing oxygen percentage of the air. This provides an equivalent experience to an altitude chamber in terms of hypoxia symptoms, but without the pressure changes and associated risk factors. The PROTE can accommodate 5 trainees at a time.
Spatial disorientation training will take place in the new GAT4 device, providing a realistic simulation of flight and the opportunity to experience vestibular and visual illusions that occur during IMC.
The classroom portion is a 1.5-hour aviation physiology class, covering critical topics with respect to flight above 10,000 feet. By attending you will receive a certificate noting you have completed the FAA's Physiological Training Course. Note the training does not satisfy all requirements for the high-altitude endorsement and no logbook annotation is made.
For the PROTE, all trainees must be 18 years of age or older and possess an FAA medical certificate. This is not a requirement for the classroom portion.
Classroom sessions will take place each day (Saturday and Sunday) from 0900-1030hrs.
