The year 2005 is significant in that it may be known as the last year manufacturers built steam gauge aircraft.
On September 16, 1983, in response to the Soviet downing of Korean Air flight 007, President Regan offers to make GPS available to non-military users for free once the system becomes operational. This is the beginning of satellite navigation for civilian aviation.
According to data provided by the General Aviation Manufacturer’s Association (GAMA), during 2006 more than 90% of new piston-powered light airplanes were equipped with full glass cockpit displays. Integrating autopilots, communication, navigation, and other aircraft systems was the next step in the upgrade.
This event provides an opportunity to collaborate and develop best practices, and to mitigate identifiable risks, for both the Instructor and the student. The result is enhanced communication and standardization of the pilot training and evaluation processes and improvements in coping with emergencies.
Together as a Team, the Instructors and Designated Pilot Examiners can combine their extensive knowledge and experience with sound judgment to create and provide the most comprehensive and effective pilot training experience, followed by a reliable and effective evaluation.
The FAASTeam would like to thank the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) for their participation and contribution to the CFI Open Forum effort.
