Additional Event Information & Acknowledgement of Industry Sponsor(s):
Sponsored by Regal Air, Paine Field, Everett, WA with equipment support from Snohomish County Airport, Paine Field. Paine Tower, Seattle Approach and Whidbey Approach are responsible for providing ATC services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to several hundred thousand annual aircraft operations. Their control area is bounded by Vancouver Terminal (Canadian ATC) to the North and Seattle ARTCC to the South, East, West, and above. To better understand why ATC controllers may request a pilot to follow specific instructions they will try and discuss the following issues: • Wake Turbulence • Hold Short read backs • Runway exiting • Runway closures and expectations for operating with just 16L/34R • IFR approaches/Opposite direction approaches (ILS in VFR conditions, VOR approach path) • Calm wind runway • Pattern entry • Simultaneous tower operation with the parallel runways and now pilot can help the controllers • Night traffic patterns • Where the VOR check-points are and how to request clearance to them • Are there preferred taxiway routes • Paine towers procedures for taxiing into central ramp and then back out on to Delta for aircraft parking • Type of radar coverage • When and how a pilot should report to controllers when flying IFR Approaches • What communications a pilot should use when flying the IFR approaches for training under VMC
