Aircraft Checklists presented by FAA Safety Team Lead Representative Gene Benson. This advanced look at checklist design and use has been featured in FAASTeam Webinars across the world!  An advanced look at the best way to use checklists. Gene Benson is a FAAST Team Lead Representative, former dean of an aviation college, Boeing 737 instructor for a major domestic airline, and flight school owner. As an active flight instructor for more than 30 years, he has accumulated more than 8000 hours of dual-given in general aviation airplanes. He has served as a training consultant to several international and domestic airlines and corporate flight operations. His specialization is in human factors and CRM. He is a member of the Association for Aviation Psychology and was recently named as a consulting editor for the International Journal of Applied Aviation Studies. Gene believes that aviation training should be as much fun as flying itself. His seminars effectively make their points while being interesting and always include a little humor.

A test pilot's perspective on What Your Instructor Never Taught You. Procedures, processes and performance charts presented by military, civilian, and experimental test pilot Jim Martin. Jim is a FAASTeam Representative and CFI Workshop facilitator for the FAASTeam.  During his long career in aviation, Jim has amassed 14,500 hours, an ATP certificate and 12 type ratings.  His degrees include Aeronautical, Mechanical and Chemical engineering from RPI.  He retired as an FAA DER Experimental Test Pilot from Cessna Aircraft, Raytheon Aircraft, and Learjet/Bombardier Aircraft Companies.  He retired from the USAF after 21 years as a fighter/test pilot.  Jim also has 4600 hours of Glider experience.  Throughout his career, he has been an active FAA / USAF instructor pilot as well as a safety consultant.

Meet the new controllers at the SYR Air Traffic Control Tower (ATC)! Andy Flynn of SYR ATC will discuss runway safety and local air traffic issues at SYR.  He and a few of the controllers will be present and available for meet and greet.

Local flight instructor Jim Spaller will present a special briefing on Approaches, Landings and Aircraft Limitations. Refresh your skills on these very important topics.

All of the presenters will be available throughout the day at workstations in the briefing room for discussion, follow up questions and answers as well as to provide additional literature.

FAA Safety Team Program Manager Guido Hassig will be at the event providing all attendees with one on one tutorial help with FAASafety.gov and the WINGs Program. Participate in the WINGs Pilot Proficiency Program - Your Key to Safety!

The session will begin with a greeting from facilitator Jim Ambrose. He will provide a lively introduction and interactive discussion in break out groups to begin the day thinking about safe habits and attitudes.  Everyone will have the opportunity to express their thoughts and receive a lot in return.

Due to security requirements at the venue, attendees will not be able to return to the event if you leave early. Therefore, FAASTeam Representative Jim Ambrose has generously donated refreshments for all attendees. Enjoy coffee, refreshments and a light lunch courtesy of Jim Ambrose. Donations are WELCOME. Please donate to ensure future aviation safety events in the Syracuse area. There is no charge for attendance at the safety briefings.
