Brief Description:
Led by Fred Brisbois and Dave Huntzinger of the International Helicopter Safety Team (IHST). This free workshop will be divided into two sessions that will cover the relationship between Safety Management Systems, just culture and pilot decision making. The workshop is designed for managers, pilots and safety officers.

The first part of the workshop will provide an overview of the IHST’s Safety Management System (SMS) including discussions on the priorities and sequence of implementing the various attributes of a Safety Management System. Participants will gain insight into how to prioritize their SMS implementation strategies. A review and practical exercise of ’just culture’ will also be featured.
The second half of this workshop will focus on pilot decision making (DM): it includes a review of DM theory and processes, a review of case studies to gain insight into common errors and techniques using a Flight Risk Assessment Tool to improve decision making.
