Brief Description:
40% of all General Aviation accidents happen during low-level maneuvering flight.  This includes the traffic pattern on downwind, base and final.  Do you use all of your senses when flying?  How about your ears and the sound of the flying wires, do you know if you are near the stall just by the noise of the aircraft?  Let's discuss some of the traffic pattern errors.

This presentation will cover approach and landings, the accident rates and causes.  40% of all accidents are happening in the traffic pattern environment.  Downwind, base and final account for many of the GA accidents.  This goes hand-in-hand with the four major accident causes since Orville and Wilbur started flying, Pilot Decision Making (PDM), Low-level maneuvering flight, continued flight from VFR into IFR conditions, followed by Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT).  These are the accident causes we keep reading about and the first two, PDM and low-level maneuvering flight, happen many times in the traffic pattern.
