1. What is the safe life expectancy of an airplane? No one really knows! The average age of our General Aviation fleet is more than thirty years old. The FAA called a summit in 2001 to review related questions and develop guidelines that are available for you to download as supporting material.
Thanks to robust designs, most aircraft show few signs of aging. Listen to local Aviation Maintenance Technician and Inspection Authorization Chris Schubert address the aging issues and the best practices for maintaining our aging fleet to ensure we can continue to fly with confidence. A safety issue all owners, renters and flying club members need to know; what to look for to assess the condition of these old airplanes and the effects of aging on them.
2. Last fall, noted aviation record holder, Steve Fossett disappeared while on a brief pleasure flight from the Flying M Ranch in Nevada. His failure to return precipitated the largest land search in history with intense national and international media attention. Our seminar will examine this search and how SAR operations by the Civil Air Patrol and the supporting military assets have dramatically changed with new technologies that expand the scope and reach of traditional visual search procedures. This search also stimulated thousands - worldwide - to try to find the lost aircraft sitting in front of their computers using satellite imagery supplied by DigitalGlobe to Google Earth. Don't miss this highly interesting and informative presentation by FAA Safety Team Lead Representative Rollie Zavada.
As part of our required WINGS review, we shall review the BASIC knowledge and flight requirements and answer your questions.
Refreshments and door prizes will be available - sponsored by CB Aviation Inc.
A CAP Pancake Breakfast will follow Sunday Morning at the airport to make it a great flying weekend.
