Title:
Cold Weather - Clear Head - ADM for Winter Flying
Topic:
Carburetor Icing Recognition and Recovery - Lessons Learned From Real-World Flight Experiences
Date and Time:
Friday, October 16, 2026, starting at 18:00 Mountain Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Andrew Collins, SCFC member, Private Pilot/Instrument rated
Brief Description:

Join us for a real-world case study of a nighttime winter flight during which a pilot experienced carburetor icing in flight. Through a firsthand account, attendees will examine the recognition of carb ice symptoms, decision-making under increasing workload, risk management considerations, and the actions taken to safely resolve the situation. This seminar will explore the aerodynamic and meteorological factors that contribute to carburetor icing, even when conditions may not seem conducive, and highlight practical lessons learned that can help pilots make better aeronautical decisions during cold-weather operations.
