Title:
The Schiff Show - The Voices in Your Head(set) Demystifying ATC
Topic:
What Does Air Traffic Control Really Need Pilots to Know—and What Do Pilots Wish Controllers Understood Better?
Date and Time:
Thursday, October 8, 2026, starting at 19:00 Central Daylight Time (17:00 PDT; 18:00 MDT; 20:00 EDT; 14:00 HST; 16:00 AKDT; 17:00 Arizona; Friday, October 9, 2026 00:00 GMT)
Speaker(s):
Brian Schiff, Marcus Miller
Brief Description:

On the next episode of THE SCHIFF SHOW, host Brian Schiff welcomes air traffic controller Marcus Miller (#PropHatCat) for a fast-moving, practical question-and-answer conversation from both sides of the frequency.

In a candid PILOT-to-CONTROLLER back-and-forth, they will tackle real-world communication, expectations, procedures, workload, weather deviations, sequencing, missed approaches, emergencies, en route communications, and the small decisions that can make every flight safer and smoother.

No jargon for jargon’s sake—just direct questions, clear answers, and useful insight for pilots who want to become easier to work with on the radio and better prepared for what happens behind the scope.

This presentation is 90 minutes long to allow sufficient time to adequately cover this important topic.

MARCUS MILLER - GUEST PRESENTER

Marcus is an air traffic controller, aviation educator, magician, and theatre producer who has built an online following by making the world of air traffic control easier to understand. As the creator of PropHatCat, he takes viewers behind the scenes of ATC, breaking down complex procedures, phraseology, and the decisions controllers make every day while helping pilots feel more comfortable using ATC services.

His path into aviation began in the virtual skies of VATSIM before becoming a professional enroute controller, and he also holds Advanced Ground Instructor and Aircraft Dispatcher certificates. Outside aviation, Marcus has performed magic and worked as an off-Broadway producer. Whether he is talking airplanes, theatre, or what really happens on the other side of the radio, his goal is simple: take something complicated and make it make sense.
