Use ADS-B Weather Products to Recognize Deteriorating Conditions and Make Timely, Informed VFR Decisions
Brief Description:
In-flight weather may differ significantly from the preflight forecast. ADS-B In gives pilots a tremendous amount of weather information, but safe use requires understanding what each product shows, how old it may be and what it cannot tell us.
This EAA Chapter 129 VMC Club presentation will examine FIS-B weather products, including NEXRAD, METARs, SPECIs, TAFs, PIREPs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs and Center Weather Advisories. We will discuss product age, update intervals, reception and display limitations, developing weather trends and cross-checking ADS-B information with other available sources.
A scenario-based discussion will challenge participants to evaluate graphical and textual weather information and decide when to continue, divert, turn around or land.

The purpose of EAA Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) Clubs is to promote recreational flying, proficiency, and safety. The intent is to create a community of pilots willing to share information, provide recognition, foster communications, promote safety, and build proficiency in VFR day and nighttime operations. EAA VMC Clubs are extensions to local EAA chapters and offer monthly VMC program meetings where pilots can network and share knowledge and experiences. Since 2017, pilots have improved their proficiency through the EAA VMC club programs and they love it.
