On June 19, 2026 the Portsmouth Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) will be temporarily shut down for a period of 30-45 days as part of our ongoing Air Traffic Control Tower Renovation project. We will open the meeting with a discussion of the ATCT shutdown. The shutdown’s impacts on the airfield and the Operating Procedures and NOTAMs that the airport will be putting in place to ensure the continued safe operation of PSM as a Non-Towered Airport for our diverse traffic mix. Then, Michael Roberts, CFII, CHI Chief Flight Instructor/General Manager and his team of CFIs at CHI Aerospace, will hold a ground school on Temporary Non-Towered Aircraft Operations at a Towered Airport, in Class D Airspace. This will entail a review of aircraft operational procedures at non-towered airports for VFR and IFR aircraft, with a discussion on how procedures will be different during the PSM Tower shutdown, and why. Representatives from the New Hampshire Air National Guard Safety Office’s Mid Air Collision Avoidance (MACA) Team and Air Traffic Controllers will be on hand to answer questions and discuss best practices for effective communication and maintaining situational awareness in out dynamic airport environment.

Participants will receive an instructor’s endorsement for up to two hours of ground school instruction.

Refreshments will be provided.
