AirVenture 2026 Forum - Whats in the Bag? Could it be Dangerous Goods?

Wednesday, July 22, 2026, starting at 16:00 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File

Kimberly Eckhart - FAA ASH
Brief Description:

We carry common dangerous goods around with us every day. Think about the lithium batteries in your cell phone, laptop, iPad, or GPS. Did you bring aerosol bug spray or sunscreen? Are you carrying dry ice, aircraft batteries, a fire extinguisher, or ballistic recovery equipment, on your aircraft? This session will introduce you to these dangerous goods and many more, the proper way to pack and transport them, what risks they pose to aircraft, what steps you can take if you experience a dangerous goods incident (such as a lithium battery experiencing thermal runaway) in flight, examples of past incidents and accidents caused by dangerous goods on aircraft, what the FAA’s role is with dangerous goods, and where you can find resources for more information.
