Title:
MOSAIC and You
Topic:
A Deep Dive on What the New Mosaic Rules Mean for You
Date and Time:
Tuesday, May 19, 2026, starting at 19:00 Pacific Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Eric Heigis
Brief Description:

In 2025, the new MOSAIC rule was introduced, overhauling Sport Pilot rules to make them much more useful for recreational aviators. Sport Pilots are now eligible to fly aircraft as large as the Cessna 182. New rules for light sport aircraft will make it easier to bring new technology to aircraft design, and positions LSAs as a bridge between certified and experimental aircraft. This presentation will explore the new MOSAIC rule and what it means for recreational aviators.

Eric Heigis is a CFI, attorney, a member of EAA Chapter 7, having started in their Young Eagles program, and began his career working for Congress on the House and Senate Transportation committees. In 8 years there he worked on three FAA Reauthorization Acts. The 2024 Act paved the way for MOSAIC a year later, and included several pro-General Aviation reforms. He lives in Los Angeles and is an attorney at a Texas-based think tank. He holds degrees from American University and the Georgetown University Law Center.
