Topic:
What Risks Are Acceptable When Flying Near Convective Weather?
Date and Time:
Saturday, May 2, 2026, starting at 09:00 Pacific Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Eric Rubel
Brief Description:

IMC Club (Tacoma Narrows-PWT) meets monthly for guided discussions (also known as "hangar talks") focused on real scenarios which call for tough decisions in the real world IFR environment.  As we discuss the monthly scenario, we share ideas and safety tips on how best to deal with specific IFR challenges.  Our objective: continually improve proficiency in IFR flying for pilots at ALL experience levels.

Our scenario for discussion this month: How best to plan for IFR flights around convective weather. What tools are available, how can we prudently manage the risks, and what should our criteria be for making a GO/NO-GO decision before we take off?

Pilots of all skill levels and experience from student pilot to ATP are welcome.
