Title:
APA (Centennial Airport) Pilot Controller Forum
Topic:
A Safety Call to Action
Date and Time:
Monday, May 4, 2026, starting at 17:30 Mountain Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Chris Worthey and Vaughn Hanson
Brief Description:

Pilot Deviations (PD's) stemming from inadequate preflight planning and communication misunderstanding can result in airborne and ground accidents and incidents.  Thorough preflight planning and adherence to communication protocols can significantly reduce PD hazards and the severity of their consequences. Teaching points:

  • Airport environments concentrate large numbers of aircraft in a confined space, raising the risk of collision
  • Thorough flight planning and following standard communication protocols are key to PD avoidance.
  • Readback/Hearback protocols should be followed by pilots and controllers.
  • Pilots are responsible for understanding and complying with all Air Traffic clearances and instructions.  Pilots must question instructions that they don’t understand before acting.

Join Centennial Tower Operations Supervisor, Chis Worthey, and Denver Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) FAASTeam Program Manager, Vaughn Hanson, as they discuss these topics.
