Date and Time:
Saturday, April 11, 2026, starting at 09:00 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Bob Collins, Chapter 54 VMC coordinator and FAASTeam Rep
Brief Description:

The EAA VMC Club provides a "hangar flying" experience organized around visual flight, in order to promote safety, education, and proficiency.

Every meeting consists of a scenario presentation and group discussion about unusual or interesting charts, changed rules and procedures, and member experiences.  We also have occasional guest speakers.

The scenario(s) we will discuss at this meeting is/are: The scenario titled "Bumpy Final" describes an actual flight.  Our pilot is flying a Piper PA-28 Dakota on a 100-mile flight with a friend.  Below 300 feet on approach, you encounter strong wind shear and turbulence. What do you do?

Bring your experience, and/or your questions, and be ready to participate.

After the short discussion, we'll watch a safety seminar on flying tailwheel aircraft.

All are welcome.  You do not need to be an EAA member to attend. Coffee and doughnuts will be served.

What is the EAA/VMC Club?

EAA provides monthly program resources in the form of actual VMC-related scenarios designed to encourage open discussion, and for all participants to answer the question “What would you do if this happened to you?”

We meet every Saturday for Laura Hermann's excellent Saturday Coffee and Wings broadcast and dedicate one Saturday to include the VMC Club scenario.

What is the purpose of EAA/VMC Club?

The purpose of EAA Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) Clubs is to promote flying, proficiency, and safety. The intent is to create a community of pilots willing to share information, provide recognition, foster communications, promote safety, and build proficiency in flying.

EAA VMC Clubs are extensions to local EAA chapters and offer monthly VMC program meetings where pilots can network and share knowledge and experiences.

Do you need to bring anything?

First, bring your thoughts or story and be willing to share them with the group.  This meeting is very interactive.  Participation by the group is a fundamental element to the EAA/VMC Club meeting.

Others have found it helpful to bring along a copy of their flight manual, GPS manual, and charts.  If you navigate with an iPad, bring it along.

Who can attend?

This meeting is open to all current, non-current, and future pilots.
