Title:
VMC and IMC Scenario based Safety Discussion
Topic:
Bad Landings
Date and Time:
Saturday, February 7, 2026, starting at 09:00 Central Standard Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Timothy Meyer, Howard Kaney
Brief Description:

VMC Question of the Month: Consider the yellow tinted areas on a sectional chart. If you are flying outside a yellow area, is that considered flying over a sparsely populated area with regards to minimum safe flight altitudes (FAR 91.119)?

IMC Question of the month:  You’re flying a light twin-engine airplane with an inoperative right engine, and are planning to land runway 22 with a right crosswind for landing. All other factors being equal, which direction would be preferred for the traffic pattern – left or right? Why?

We will discuss the answers to the two questions of the month as well as the VMC and IMC video scenarios and discuss what we would do if we wound ourselves in the same situations ro more importantly, what we would do to prevent ourselves from getting in to those situations in the first place.

We view and discuss short videos presenting flight scenarios that any VFR pilot can learn from others. Members discuss short videos and how they would respond to the given scenario. This is an open Forum for free ideas and we all learn from Shared Experience! All are welcome to join in the discussion. Please register to get WINGS credit towards your next Flight Review for attending this event. These meetings use real-world scenarios to engage members, and allow a free exchange of information that improves awareness and skills. The intent is to create a community of pilots willing to share information, provide recognition, foster communications, promote safety, and build proficiency. Through the EAA VMC club programs, visual flight rule pilots have improved their proficiency, and they love it.

Sponsored by EAA Chapter 1158, but you do not have to be a member or a pilot to attend.
