Brief Description:

This presentation addresses typical safety concerns, and offers information on available resources for safely accessing back country recreational airstrips.The New Mexico Pilots Association (NMPA) promotes back country flying and strives to increase recreational flying opportunities in New Mexico. 

Also included are highlights of work resulting from the New Mexico Airstrip Network (NMAN), a partnership including the Recreational Aviation Foundation (RAF), USFS, BLM, NMDOT Aviation Division, NM Council of Outfitters and Guides, NM Economic Development, NM Tourism, and other state agencies and national aviation organizations including AOPA, EAA, and USPA.

This seminar is during the Albuquerque EAA 179's "Land of Enchantment Fly In", open 0700 - 1400 with static aircraft displays, aircraft awards, aviation Exhibit Hall, flight simulator learning center, aircraft builder demos, food trucks and live bands. Speaker Ron Keller serves as a New Mexico Pilots Association (NMPA) Board member, Chair of their Backcountry Committee, and RAF NM Liaison.  Ron actively volunteers his time and equipment to help maintain backcountry airstrips, particularly in the Gila region.
