Title:
VFR into IMC Avoidance
Topic:
Avoiding VFR Flight Into IMC
Date and Time:
Thursday, June 26, 2025, starting at 18:00 Mountain Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Mark Chmieleski
Brief Description:

Each year pilots continue to inadvertently transition from visual flight rules (VFR) into instrument meteorological conditions (IMC)—a scenario commonly referred to as VFR into IMC. The consequences are often deadly. VFR into IMC remains the leading cause of weather-related aviation accidents annually with a staggering fatality rate of 86% in non-commercial fixed-wing aircraft. Notably, it's not just non-instrument-rated pilots who are affected; approximately one-third of these accidents involve instrument-rated pilots as well.

In this seminar we will explore the causes of VFR into IMC, strategies for avoidance, and the critical immediate actions to take if you inadvertently enter instrument conditions.

Participants will also receive two hours of simulator time in an FAA-approved Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD) along with a comprehensive VFR into IMC training syllabus.
