Title:
Safety Culture and Overreliance on Automation
Topic:
Safer Piloting While Utilizing Available New Technology
Speaker(s):
John Steuernagle
Brief Description:
Culture has a profound influence on how we perceive our operational environments and how we cope with the challenges they present. This presentation focuses on the attributes of robust safety cultures which support GA safety and efficiency. Automation is a 21st century fact of life with well documented benefits. Ironically, increased automation has reduced pilot performance: particularly in GA operations. This presentation explores design and automation evolution and offers suggestions on how to make the best use of technology while retaining pilot skills.
