Title:
Vestibular Illusions and Overreliance on Automation
Topic:
We Will Discuss Sensory Illusions and Also Occasions When Our Automation Does Not Perform as Expected.
Date and Time:
Tuesday, November 5, 2024, starting at 18:30 Eastern Standard Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Paul Golick, Professional CFI
Brief Description:

Our senses usually help us maintain situational and spacial awareness but, when flying, some sensory inputs may mislead.  We will review several varieties of illusions and mis-perceptions. A pilot who recognizes an illusion can choose more reliable information.

Technology and automation have changed the way pilots interact with their aircraft.  Automation can reduce a pilot's workload but can also challenge a pilot's abilities.  When the pilot's role changes from being the sole mover of activities to being a monitor much of the time, the opportunities for loss of situational awareness increase and will be discussed.

Pizza will be available after 6PM for those attendees who arrive early.

The presentation is open to all pilots.  Click the link below and register TODAY.
