Title:
Human Factors Teamwork and Situational Awareness
Topic:
How Flight instructors Build Teamwork and Situational Awareness Skills into Instructional Lessons.
Speaker(s):
Andrew DeFeo, DPE
Brief Description:
This is a two hour workshop designed for CFI's, DPE's and future CFI's. This will continue the Human Factor Series, with a focus on Teamwork and Situational Awareness. Teaching Teamwork and Situational Awareness is one of the greatest challenges for flight instructors. Teamwork is not just a factor for multi-crew aircraft. It applies to single pilot operations as well. Identifying the high performance characteristics of pilots and helping them incorporate these traits into developing good habits, becomes a critical part of training. Pilots who incorporate these traits into pre, post, and in-flight resources before every fight, demonstrate a high level of risk management. Situational Awareness involves accurate understanding of what is going on around us, and knowing what is going to happen next. This workshop will examine best practices through small group discussion, case study investigations, to help instructors infuse teamwork and situation awareness into each lesson.
