FAASTeam December 2023 Topic Of The Month - Making The Numbers
Topic:
The 4-H Club And Aircraft Performance.
Date and Time:
Tuesday, December 19, 2023, starting at 17:30 Pacific Standard Time (18:30 MST; 19:30 CST; 20:30 EST; 15:30 HST; 16:30 AKST; 18:30 Arizona; Wednesday, December 20, 2023 01:30 GMT)
Speaker(s):
Stephen Bateman, CFI
Brief Description:

Summary:

The General Aviation Joint Safety Committee (GAJSC) has determined that many accidents are the result of inaccurate and/or unreasonable expectations with regard to aircraft performance.  Here, we’ll see how the 4-H Club (hot, high, humid and heavy) conspire to greatly change aircraft performance.  We’ll also remind ourselves how to predict aircraft performance, by using manufacturer’s data and useful rules-of-thumb.

Learning Points:

  • General aviation accidents continue to be associated with inaccurate or unreasonable expectations about aircraft performance.
  • The use of aircraft performance information is essential for every flight and in all flight regimes.
  • Running the numbers isn’t difficult and a “take-off and landing card” should be part of every pre-flight action plan.
