Title:
August Topic of the Month - Personal Minimums and Weather Cameras
Topic:
How to Develop Your Own Personal Weather Minimums and Introduction to the FAA's Weather Camera Program
Speaker(s):
Gary Burleson - FAAST Team Representative
Brief Description:
- Pilots should develop and periodically review, a set of personal weather minimums, preferably with a Flight Instructor.
- General Aviation accidents, such as Loss of Control and Controlled Flight Into Terrain, have occurred because pilots were flying in areas where weather information was unavailable.
- Near-real-time weather information, especially in mountainous areas, is not commonly available, but camera views can greatly aid pilots in determining whether sufficient ceiling and visibility exist.
- Pilots should be aware of the increasing presence of remotely-accessible weather cameras and should be instructed in their use.
