Speaker Bio:

Aaron Barclay, Chicago TRACON ATC

Aaron Barclay has been a Chicago Approach controller since 2008. He grew up around airplanes when his dad joined the Naperville Flying Club (NFC) in 1985 - the year Aaron was born. Aaron would fly with his dad around the Midwest and eventually earned his private certificate through the NFC in 2003. He graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 2007 with a B.S. in aeronautical science and a minor in Air Traffic Control. In 2008 Aaron started his ATC journey at Chicago Approach (C90) and fully certified in 2012 working all sectors around Chicago.

In 2012 Aaron also earned his CFI and CFII and has been actively instructing in the Chicago area for over 10 years. Because Aaron wears both an ATC and a pilot’s hat, he’s able to help controllers understand the pilot world and pilots to better understand what’s happening behind a controller’s radar scope. He says, “Being able to bridge the gap between the vast crater that often presents itself between pilots and controllers has been one of the joys of my life."
