Topic:
Planning & Flying Across the Continent Through the Mountains from Oregon to Florida
Brief Description:
This month's speaker, Mike Kelley, recently moved to The Villages, Florida from Independence, Oregon, where he had been president of EAA 292 for the past four years. He launched the Chapter's VMC and IMC clubs. He has owned and flown a variety of both certified and experimental aircraft over the past 35 years and is currently flying a Sonex that he finished in 2012 and a Lancair that he completed in 2019. In this FREE two-hour presentation, Mike will reflect on his July 2022 flight in a VFR only non ADSB LIght Sport aircraft from Oregon to Florida. The presentation will cover the extensive planning and preparation for the multi-day trip. He will discuss many of the issues and concerns that needed to be addressed including ADSB airspace, aircraft prep, weather, oxygen, pilot fatigue, density altitude, APRS tracking, and emergency contingencies. He will also discuss how that preparation impacted the actual execution of the flight.
