Title:
CFI/DPE Forum - Know Thy Limits
Topic:
Teaching Aircraft Limitations and Continuation Bias
Date and Time:
Tuesday, December 6, 2022, starting at 19:00 Eastern Standard Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Karl Bearnarth, CFI and FAASTeam Rep
Brief Description:

This is a two-part presentation.  The first part of the presentation we will discuss best practices for for teaching aircraft limitations.  Exceeding aircraft operational limitations can result in irreversible damage to the aircraft and components.  Sometimes such damage has led to structural failures, aircraft accidents, and loss of life.  Aircraft stress and fatigue resulting from exceeding operational limitations is cumulative and older airframes are especially at risk.

During the second part of the presentation we will examine the pilot's "Mission Completion" focus that can result in continuation bias.  Whether you are an instructor trying to complete a lesson, or a private pilot afflicted with "get there-itis" we have to know to say when it's time to make a change of plans and call off the mission.

Please register for this event as seating is limited!
