Brief Description:

“What causes the airplane to spin?” Many high-time professional pilots and flight instructor applicants typically answer, “One wing is stalled more than another.” While that’s a great answer, how do we stall one wing more than another? The response usually includes a blank stare.

Mark King and Brian Schiff will answer this question and address the myths, tales, and untruths regarding stalls and spins.

BRIAN SCHIFF - PRESENTER & HOST

Brian Schiff is a captain for a major U.S. airline with over 20,000 hours. He is type rated on the Airbus A320, Boeing 727, 757, and 767; DC-9 (MD-80); CL-65; LR-JET; and Gulfstream V. Schiff’s roots are deeply planted in general aviation having flown a wide variety of aircraft.

He holds several flight instructor ratings and is recognized for his enthusiasm and ability to teach in ways that simplify complex procedures and concepts. He has actively instructed since earning his flight and ground instructor certificates in 1985.

He attended San Jose State University, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and his Masters of Science degree in Aviation Safety from the University of Central Missouri. He regularly teaches and conducts seminars about aviation safety and techniques to student and professional pilots alike. In December 2018, Brian became a NAFI board member.

 

MARK KING - PRESENTER

Mark King is a full-time flight instructor at a well-known Southern California flight school, CP aviation in Santa Paula. Over 3000 of his 8000 hours of dual given has been devoted to emergency maneuver training (UPRT), tailwheel and aerobatics. He holds a FAA Gold Seal flight instructor certificate with single, multi and instrument ratings and Master CFI (Aerobatic) designation.  

Mark has extensive Alaska flying experience, has provided training for Federal, State and County agencies in UPRT, has taught UPRT and, aerobatics in Europe. Mark is also a Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilot (CSIP), an active member of the International Aerobatic Club, participates in competitive aerobatics in a Pitts S2B and flies a Beech Bonanza and a Cessna 140 for pleasure.

 

RON TIMMERMANS - HOST

Ron Timmermans earned his Private Pilot Certificate in 1972, and went on to add Commercial, Instrument, CFI/MEI, ATP, and Remote Pilot. Shortly after earning a CFIIA/MEI-IA, Ron became a Beechcraft Pilot Proficiency Program Ground and Flight instructor

Ron is the 2021 FAA National Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year, and has been selected by AOPA as a professional ground instructor for the ‘Rusty Pilots’ program, Ron now makes presentations to reach long inactive pilots to encourage their return to flight. 

Ron is a FAASTeam Lead Representative giving monthly presentations on GA safety topics, has given many Young Eagle rides, has authored training curriculum, and has developed flight instructor standardization guides, published articles, and served in leadership positions on the American Bonanza Society Board of Directors.
