Title:
IMC Club Monthly Meeting at PWK
Topic:
Marc Epner will lead us through a discussion one or two flights where the go/no-go decision wasn't easy.
Date and Time:
Wednesday, July 22, 2020, starting at 18:30 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Marc Epner
Brief Description:

IMC Club at PWK returns to live meetings! We have coordinated with the Ramada Plaza and will maintain social distancing rules. The meeting will be limited to 90 people. However, we will make our first attempt at live-streaming the meeting, please email us for access to the video conference information.

Marc Epner will lead us through a discussion about a mid-summer trip between Chicago and Kansas City, what could go wrong? The weather at the destination was the main consideration when the go/no-go decision was made. Things became very interesting very fast when lower clouds were experienced before getting out of Chicago. Having the XM weather in-op was to be a minor inconvenience but wasn't so minor when the onboard iPad with ADS-B weather overheated and shut down.

Time permitting, we'll look at a second scenario, a quick breakfast flight to KBMI and back. There was a significant WX shift resulting in an uncomfortable encounter with ice on the return trip to KPWK. The pictures will make you shudder.

Speaker bio:

Marc Epner is a 2,000-hour instrument-rated pilot, who earned his initial pilot rating in 1976. After a 25 year hiatus, he rekindled his love of aviation in 2004, became a  partner in an SR-22, helped to start Leading Edge Flying Club, and co-hosts SimpleFlight Radio, a podcast now in its eighth season. Marc shares his passion and advocacy for general aviation through presentations, writing, and flying.

IMC Club:

The IMC Club’s purpose is to promote instrument flying, proficiency, and safety. The intent is to create a community of pilots willing to share their perspective, provide recognition, foster communications, promote safety, and build proficiency in instrument flying. An IFR rating is not needed to participate in this excellent forum where we think through the various options from the comfort of your chair, firmly on the ground... before it is you sitting in the cockpit.

We meet monthly when instrument and visual-only pilots (and would-be pilots), network and share knowledge and experiences to keep our head in the game.
