About our SPEAKER:
Michael Smith started skydiving during his freshman year of college at Kansas State University. He eventually became a jumpmaster and instructor in both static line and freefall, and spent many years doing freefall photography (video and stills). For 5 years, Mike competed at the U.S. Skydiving Nationals. With just over 2,700 skydives, at 55 years old, Mike does still jump, just not as much as he used to.
Spending so much time in airplanes is what made Mike want to get his pilot certificate. He became a private pilot in 2000, and received his instrument rating the following year. Mike currently has 800 hours of flight time, of which 480 has been in his Sonex, which he scratch built over a 5 year period.
Mike is currently the president of EAA Chapter 196 at the Minute Man Air Field in Stow, MA, and a member of EAA Chapter 106.
SPONSOR: EAA Chapter 106 https://chapters.eaa.org/EAA106/ is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) educational public charity. EAA106 offers educational seminars and programs for pilots and those building their own aircraft throughout the year, including the annual NorthEast Experimental Aircraft Fly-In which showcases amateur-built aircraft and offers several seminars throughout the day (similar to Oshkosh ‘forums’).
