Aerotowing is the most common launch method in the US and we do it often. Sometimes we do it poorly, with horrific consequences. This is a perspective from a glider CFI who is also a towpilot -- on the common errors and misconceptions about aerotowing. We will offer some myth busting on the business of following the towpilot to begin a rewarding soaring flight.

Cindy Brickner has been a soaring pilot since the late 1970's, and a towpilot since the 1990's. She has aerotowed mostly, but is also ground launch and self-launch qualified. As a twenty year gliderport operator, she has seen a few aerotows gone awry. She will recount some of those misadventures, and be certain to offer her teaching techniques to enhance the safety of the towing staff.
