Title:
NextGen - Your Questions Answered!
Topic:
NextGen and the General Aviation System
Speaker(s):
Gisele Mohler, Director of NextGen Performance & Outreach
Brief Description:
The FAA's Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) initiative is changing the way we fly in the United States, making flying safer and making our airspace more flexible. NextGen procedures are already improving access to GA airports. Other NextGen capabilities will improve situational awareness for pilots.

Our speaker, Gisele Mohler, is a General Aviation pilot who is part of the team leading the way into the future of air transportation via the NextGen system and she understands your concerns as a General Aviation pilot. Come and learn how NextGen will affect your flights in the future and bring your questions.
During 2011, NextGen made flying safer by giving pilots nearly total access to stabilized approach procedures with three-dimensional precision using Performance Based Navigation (PBN). It made air transportation more efficient by moving aircraft in and out of airports faster and by making better use of airspace. It gave pilots and air traffic controllers new capabilities that will allow them to see the exact location of surrounding aircraft. It reduced aviation’s environmental impact from some operations using capabilities that allow aircraft to burn less fuel, emit fewer greenhouse gases and reduce noise. Not all of these improvements were just for the "heavy iron" drivers. Through the use of GPS/WAAS approaches many more airports have been opened to the instrument rated pilot. Things are changing in aviation and to keep up with the changes you need to know how the system can work for you. Find out how NextGen is changing the NAS and what you need to do to take advantage of NextGen capabilities.
