In July of 2004, FAA Administrator Marion Blakey officially unveiled the long-awaited Sport Pilot and Light Sport Aircraft rule, allowing many pilots to fly with a valid driver's license in lieu of a medical certificate and creating new, less-expensive ways to become a pilot. Four years later - on July 10, 2008 - MAPA (the Mid Atlantic Pilots Association) will host its first Light Sport Jamboree.
Light-sport planes from various makers will be at C&W Aero at CDW from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Attendees are invited to talk with owners and dealers. At MAPA's request, Doug Nelson, EAA Chapter 643 member and Light Sport Pilot/Aircraft contact, is spearheading the event and will give a Sport Pilot/Light Sport presentation at 7:00 PM including a "State-of-the-Union" update on rulings and aircraft.
