Greetings to all Grand Rapids FSDO District FAASTeam Representatives!

The Grand Rapids FSDO has newly assigned FAASTeam Program Managers effective June 28, 2015.  The South Bend, IN FSDO has closed and the FSDO boundaries have been redrawn.  The Grand Rapids FSDO has absorbed a large portion of the former South Bend district as well as most of the personnel.  The DuPage and Indianapolis FSDO districts have absorbed the remainder of the South Bend district.

Former South Bend FSDO FAASTeam Program Managers, Tim Sokol (Airworthiness) and Sam Heiter (Operations) will continue their mission with the Grand Rapids FSDO.  Although assigned to the Grand Rapids office, Tim and Sam will be remotely sited at their current location in South Bend.

Tim is a highly experienced aircraft mechanic and FAA inspector with over 15 years in the FAA.  Tim has been a Program Manager in the Great Lakes Region since the inception of the FAASTeam.

Sam is an experienced general aviation pilot and instructor and also has experience in Part 135 and 121 operations.  He has been with the FAA for 8 years and with the FAASTeam for 5 years.

Both of us look forward to actively working with each of you in the spirit of the FAASTeam mission statement to; “Improve upon the Nation’s aviation accident rate by conveying safety principles and practices through training, outreach, and education; while establishing partnerships and encouraging the continual growth of a positive safety culture within the aviation community.”

We will travel as needed throughout the district to accomplish the FAASTeam goals.  In addition, we plan to use available technology such as webinars to enhance our outreach capabilities.

Please feel free to contact us regarding the Grand Rapids FAASTeam.  We are excited about this new assignment and look forward to working with each of you.  We welcome your input and suggestions on how to continue and improve the FAASTeam outreach in the General Aviation community.
