Happy new year everyone!  I know, it's always strange to say that in October.  It's been a while since we've been in communication, had a very busy few months as you probably saw from the number of presentations and events and meetings I was cranking out during the summer.  But now it's time to get down to business for Fiscal 15.

First of all I want to make a couple of special recognitions. We have a couple of GA award winners in our district. Congratuations to Don Streitenberger of Kroger for being named AMT of the year, and congratulations to Jim Bergman of EJM for being named FAASTeam Rep of the year!

Here's the lowdown for fiscal 15 according to my business plan:

  1. I need to do a pilot/controller forum at some point during the year. My plan is to do another event like the one last April where I had controllers and FSDO inspectors come in for an FAA meet-n-greet. All the feedback I received says the event was a smashing success so I want to do it again.
  2. I'm looking to participate in the local RSAT meetings with the control towers. Lunken had theirs in September, and I ended up missing it due to catching the creeping crud from my kid, but I'm ears open for the CVG and Dayton meetings.
  3. I need to do some outreach with the state office of aviation, which I will most likely coordinate with Mark Harden up in Columbus for sometime next year.
  4. My FSDO activity report for FY14 is in the can and the data is current through the end of June 2014. If anyone wants a copy of it just let me know, it's in Powerpoint format. I'll be doing the FY15 report sometime next summer.
  5. I need to have a public meeting about NextGen ATC improvements sometime during the year. I don't have a formal presentation to do but I have plenty of info already and I know where to get more when it becomes available.
  6. I've got 4 meetings that need to be done, 1 per quarter probably, that will address local flying safety issues. One of them is in the can already thanks to Matt Johnson's fantastic helicopter operators meeting on October 3rd. Great job Matt! I'm looking at Middletown and Clermont County as future venues for these meetings, and if anyone has suggestions as to where I should do one or what topic needs to be addressed just let me know.
  7. A total of 4 safety seminars have to be held throughout the year. This one will be easy and will likely be done at the end of FIRST quarter between what I've got going and the two seminars Dave Zitt is doing at Clermont County November 11 and December 4. Way to go Dave! We can always do more seminars, in fact the more we do the better.
  8. I've got my GAJSC Topic of the Month meetings again, I have 7 of the presentations in hand already and have the first 3 scheduled: October 28 at Wright Brothers talking about stabilized approaches and go arounds, November 18 at Warren County talking about homebuilt flight testing, and December 9 at Greene County talking about spatial disorientation. I haven't scheduled 2nd quarter yet, that'll probably start in December.
  9. The quarterly CFI open forums are back and I've got the first two in hand, the first one will be December 2 at the Lunken Airmen's Club and will cover IPCs
  10. I have to do 2 seminars on Loss of Control during the year, this one should be easy to hit and can double up with one of the other meetings I'm sure.
  11. I'm looking to participate in some manner in the DPE and DAR annual meetings, I just need to find out when they are. I also need to do some sort of participation in the annual IA renewal, and I had some great interface with OATS on this one last year that I hope to repeat this year.
  12. I've got a helicopter safety webinar that I need to do. Yes you read that right, I'm doing digital for this one. Matt, I'll probably be calling on you for help on this one since you're the resident rotor-head.
  13. I need to do a seminar regarding UAS, or drones as we more commonly know them. I have a plethora of material at my disposal, I just need to find a venue and a time.
  14. I need to do 4 owner/operator maintenance presentations for the year. One is in the can already, and I'd like to give a shout out to EAA Chapter 382 at Greene County Airport for having me at their meeting on October 16.
  15. I've got 4 maintenance facility safety presentations that need to be done, no specified topic. Al and Jim, you guys will probably be my go-to for this one since you knocked it out of the park last year.
  16. I've got to do some interface with the MIDO up in Dayton at some point. I have the contact info, just need to get on the phone and schedule something, but I've got no idea what to talk about with them.
  17. I have no idea what's going on with Oshkosh, I may be going but I may not be. I'll know more as summer draws closer.
  18. We need to have two face to face meetings with me and as many reps as we can get. I'd like to get the first one on the calendar now so we have as much time as possible to prepare: MONDAY FEBRUARY 23. We can do it during the day here at the FSDO or we can do an evening one at the Airmen's Club or someplace similar. Let me know what you prefer, but mark that date. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make it to this meeting or the second one which will be in summer some time.
That's it in a nutshell. Granted, that must have been a pretty impressive nut because I threw a lot of info at you folks. If you've got any questions or concerns, or if you have an idea for a presentation topic/venue that you want to see, just let me know. I'm here in the FAAST cave at the CVG FSDO.

One other thing, I do have a LinkedIn account. Just look me up by name and connect. It'll be another good way to spread the word and keep in contact.

Now all we have to do is see just how badly the Bengals are going to get whooped by the Ravens on Sunday. I predict an epic beating, but maybe Marvin and the Red Rifle will prove me wrong.

Take care and fly safe everyone!
