Do you know an exceptional CFI, A&P, Avionics Tech, or FAASTeam Rep?
This notice expired on

If you know a very special flight instructor, FAASTeam rep, mechanic, or avionics tech, this is your chance to reward that aviation professional with the recognition he or she so richly deserves. And if you ARE such an exeptional aviation professional, this is your chance to be recognized for the great work you do.

“The best aviation professionals don’t necessarily consider themselves as ‘award winners,’ says Arlynn McMahon, Chairman of the General Aviation Awards Committee. “Most would never apply for these prestigious awards on their own.” Arlynn explains that these exceptional people are mostly just hard-working professionals trying to make aviation the safest it can be.

“In 2009, when a FAASTeam rep nominated me for the CFI-of-the-year award, I felt surprised as well as honored and humbled,” McMahon continued. “I didn’t even know about the GA Awards program, and my first reaction was ‘who, me?’”

Each year for the past 50 years, the General Aviation Awards Program and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have recognized aviation professionals for their contributions to general aviation in the fields of flight instruction, aviation maintenance, avionics, and safety. The Program accepts application packets in four categories: CFI, A&P, Avionics Tech, and FAASTeam Rep.

Application packets will be vetted for completeness, then submitted to each applicant's local FSDO for review. Each FSDO will select district winners in each of the four categories, then forward the winners' packets to the FAA Regional Offices where regional winners will be selected in each category. Finally, the regional winners' packets will be submitted to panels of distinguished industry judges in each category, who will select the four national winners for 2015.

At each stage of the competition, the district, regional and national winners will be publicized through a broad spectrum of print and electronic aviation media resources. The four national winners will receive an expenses-paid trip to EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, where they will be recognized by the FAA Administrator and receive lots of prizes donated by our industry sponsors.

The nomination/application period for the 2015 GA Awards closes at the end of this month. An online nomination/application form may be found at http://www.generalaviationawards.org/ under the “Nominations” tab, along with details of the additional supporting documents required from applicants. The website provides a wealth of information about the General Aviation Awards program.

If you need additional information or help, contact Arlynn via email at mailto:info@generalaviationawards.org or call her at 859-983-2709. Arlynn McMahon and her husband Charlie have operated Aero-Tech, Inc., a flight school in Lexington, Kentucky, since 1971. She was honored as 2009 National Flight Instructor of the Year.

PLEASE DON’T DELAY! Help recognize “the best of the best” by nominating that truly exceptional CFI, A&P, Avionics Tech, or FAASTeam rep for one of these prestigious awards (or applying for one yourself).
