  Issued:  May 14, 2013                                                         Effective:  June 15, 2013

AUGUSTA TOWER LETTER TO AIRMEN:  NO. 13-01

  SUBJECT:  Practice Instrument Approaches

  CANCELLATION:  June 15, 2015

VFR aircraft requesting practice instrument approaches at the following airports will be provided standard separation by Augusta Approach Control.  Controller responsibility for separation begins at the point where the approach clearance becomes effective.

                        Airport                                                             Augusta Approach Frequency

            Augusta Regional (AGS)                                                   126.8/270.3

            Daniel Field (DNL)                                                              126.8/270.3

Pilots are reminded that a clearance for a VFR practice approach does not authorize the pilot to conduct the missed approach procedure.  This program does not relieve pilots of their responsibility to see and avoid other traffic.

AUGUSTA TOWER LETTER TO AIRMEN:  NO. 13-02

SUBJECT:  Daniel Airport – VFR Departure Procedures

CANCELLATION:  June 14, 2015

1.    When departing VFR from AugustaDanielAirport on a heading from 360 clockwise to 180, you are encouraged to follow these procedures:

After your run-up and all preflight checklist items have been completed, call Augusta Approach Control on 126.8 and state your call sign, type of aircraft, departure runway and that you are on the ground at Daniel, your requested destination (or on-course heading), VFR cruising altitude (i.e. Augusta Approach, N12345, Cessna 182, Departing Runway 11, on the ground at Daniel, destination Brunswick, Georgia, requesting 7,500).

  • The Controller will issue a VFR transponder code (which you should dial in prior to your departure), and instruct you to maintain VFR at or below 2,500, issue suggested heading to fly after departure, and a departure frequency.

  • After acknowledgement, you should return to Daniel Unicom frequency and make normal suggested call ups prior to starting your departure roll.

  • After you are airborne and clear of the traffic pattern at Daniel Field, fly the suggested heading as quickly as possible and contact either Augusta Approach or AugustaTower, as directed, simply stating that you are airborne (i.e. Augusta Approach, N12345 is with you off Daniel, climbing to 2,500).  As workload permits, the controller will establish you on radar and provide VFR separation services to you, and will allow you to proceed on course as quickly as traffic permits.
  1. When arriving VFR to Daniel Field from the east or southeast, contact Augusta Approach control on frequency 119.15 with your standard VFR call-up.

  • After establishing your aircraft in radar contact, the controller will instruct you to descend VFR to 3,500, then approximately 10-15 miles from the AugustaRegionalAirport, the approach controller will instruct you to contact AugustaTower on 118.7.

  • After contacting the tower, the tower controller will give you the necessary instructions to provide separation services from the traffic operating into and out of AugustaRegionalAirport.  When the tower controller no longer has control instructions for you, they will state, “Squawk VFR, radar services terminated, change to advisory frequency approved.”

  • You should then change your transponder to 1200, make the appropriate Unicom transmissions on Daniel Unicom frequency and proceed with your normal approach and landing.

NOTE:   This procedure does not apply to special VFR flights, nor will this procedure be in effect during the week of the Masters Golf Tournament.
