SPRINGFIELD AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER LETTER TO AIRMEN NO. 13-01
SUBJECT:
VFR PRACTICE APPROACHES
CANCELLATION:
March 31, 2014
Springfield Approach Control, located at Springfield Air Traffic Control Tower, provides standard separation to VFR aircraft conducting practice instrument approaches at the following airports:
Springfield, IL Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport (SPI)
Jacksonville, IL Jacksonville Municipal Airport (IJX)
Lincoln, IL Logan County Airport (AAA)
Taylorville, IL Taylorville Municipal Airport (TAZ)
Practice instrument approaches by VFR and IFR aircraft are approved by ATC on a workload-permitting basis.
Vertical separation of 500 feet will be applied by Springfield Approach Control between other known VFR practice approach aircraft, and between other IFR aircraft. Exception: 1000 feet vertical separation will be applied when wake turbulence is a factor.
Controller responsibility for separation begins at the point where the approach clearance is issued, and terminates at the missed approach point. Advise ATC your intentions prior to completion of the practice approach, i.e., full stop, touch-and-go, or missed approach. Springfield Approach Control can be contacted on frequency 126.15 for the provisions of this service.
