I'm not sure whether to wish everyone a happy winter or a happy spring since this wacky Ohio weather can't make up its mind.
Here's the latest from the Dark Side. You've probably all heard about that sequestration stuff that's going around, and the FAA is not immune to it. Yours truly is going to be pinching some pennies and clipping coupons for a few months, but that doesn't mean that things are going to come to a complete stop. Safety never sleeps and neither do I! On that note, reminder to self: stock up on Red Bull.
I'm going to be needing some assistance in the Toledo area with a safety seminar and/or pilot/mechanic gathering. We've got a pilot in that area who has just earned the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award AND the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award. Needless to say, this is huge and we want to play it up as big as we can when we make the presentation. His name is Frank Coulter if anyone from that area knows him, he's requested that the presentation be at some sort of event like I mentioned a couple sentences ago. If you can lend a hand, let me know and we'll get something going.
George up at Moraine Airpark is requesting a safety seminar on the first Sunday in May at 11am. If anyone is able to help George out, please contact him at (937) 866-2489 and tell him that I sent you.
Still looking for assistance with the CFI Open Forums in CMH and CLE districts. I have the presentation on hand, it's about stalls and spins, and it happens to be small enough that I can email it. If you are interested and able to do the presentation, let me know and I'll set you up.
The Safety Stand Down for 2013 is coming up soon. I'm going to be working the event for the CVG district on Saturday April 20th at Commander Aero KMGY. The format is going to be different this year than previous years. Rather than having a canned DVD video presentation, there will be a FSDO meet-n-greet as well as a loss of control presentation and a loss of control discussion panel. To that end, I'm going to need a few people to be my discussion panelists. I'm looking for CFIs, DPEs, FAASTeam Reps or anyone else who would have a good insight on loss of control issues. If you are interested in being part of the stand down or know someone who would be a good resource, contact me and we'll get cracking. For those in Buckeye territory and those way up north, contact Mark Harden at the CMH FSDO or Tom Leahy at the CLE FSDO if you are interested in helping with those stand downs.
Keep up the great work everyone! We couldn't do this without you!
Jason Forshey, FAASTeam Program Manager, GA Ops Ohio, CVG FSDO
