Active flight instructors are invited to participate in an exclusive CFI training program at EAA’s Pilot Proficiency Center (PPC) on the EAA AirVenture grounds on Sunday July 22 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the day before AirVenture opening day. This event on the AirVenture grounds will provide CFI training on flying and utilizing Redbird LDs for scenario-based instruction, as well as an opportunity for personal G1000 introductory training. Participants will receive AirVenture admission for Sunday, the day of training, which is good for admission on AirVenture opening day, Monday July 23.
Registration closes June 25.
The Pilot Proficiency Center’s mission is to encourage ongoing skill improvement and to increase the proficiency of the overall pilot population. This is accomplished by flying scenarios using Redbird LDs. During the pre-AirVenture CFI Training Day, flight instructors receive an introduction to PPC operations, practice hands-on flying the scenarios and learn to operate the Redbird simulators and CloudAhoy debriefing tools. Redbird units are configured as high wing and low wing aircraft, with both analog and G1000 gauges. Scenarios include VFR and IFR conditions, and provide real-time ‘live ATC’ communications from PilotEdge.
Flight instructors benefit from interaction with their peers and learn scenarios that effectively promote pilot proficiency year-round. CFIs also have the opportunity for personal G1000 introductory training with experienced instructors and will learn how to apply CloudAhoy flight briefing tools. Each participating instructor will receive a subscription to CloudAhoy through the end of July 2018. Camaraderie among the dozens of PPC flight instructors is high, both during the pre-event training activities and throughout the week of AirVenture.
During AirVenture, PPC client pilots receive one-on-one training sessions from volunteer CFIs by flying the scenarios most appropriate to the individual. CFIs may select the equipment that they prefer to use for instruction (analog vs. G1000) and preferred scenarios (VFR, IFR or both). Close to one thousand pilots received proficiency training at the PPC during AirVenture 2017.
Flight instructors who attend the pre-AirVenture training event are encouraged, but not required to volunteer at the PPC. Due to space limitations, CFIs instructing at the PPC will be given priority registration for this pre-AirVenture proficiency training.
