Additional Event Information & Acknowledgement of Industry Sponsor(s):

Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS–B) is a cooperative surveillance technology in which an aircraft determines its own position via satellite navigation and periodically broadcasts it, enabling it to be tracked. The information can be used by air traffic control ground stations as a replacement for secondary radar. It can also be received by other aircraft to provide situation awareness and allow self-separation.

ADS–B is an element of the US Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). The systems is already up and running, and by the year 2020, all General Aviation (GA) aircraft in the United States will need to be to be equipped with ADS-B Out to operate in all airspace that currently requires Mode-C equipment. Pilots need to plan now, to understand how the system works, and how to equip their aircraft to be compliant with the 2020 mandate.

Our speaker, Art Vartanian is the founder & CEO of Peninsula Avionics, located at Palo Alto Airport (KPAO). Art holds a BSEE degree, has over 20 years of experience, and has installed dozens of ADS-B systems in GA aircraft. He is a member of the Aircraft Electronics Association and has an FCC license with RADAR endorsement.
