Title:
'Step On the Ball': Aerodynamics 101
Topic:
Spin Awareness and Stall/Upset Recovery Training
Speaker(s):
Johnny White, Bob Dorton
Brief Description:
Ask any pilot examiner which knowledge area most candidates lack, and the answer is always "aerodynamics". Why is it a 777 captain tragically lands a perfectly good airplane horribly short on a visual approach with fatal consequences while an Airbus captain skillfully "dead-sticks" his loaded aircraft into the Hudson River with no injuries? Most pilots today have the technical knowledge to navigate with GPS, AHARS, and sophisticated autopilots, but lack the basic comprehension of energy management, angle of attack, stalls, spin awareness, slips, and skids. Attend this seminar and learn from a professional pilot and aerobatic Master instructor with over 30,000 flight hours. Gain understanding in the fundamentals of aerodynamics in a two-hour, jam-packed seminar that is guaranteed to make you a safer pilot. Seating is limited. WINGS Seminar Schedule
9:00 Registration, FREE coffee and donuts
9:15 Part I: Fundamentals of Aerodynamics. In this first hour you will review the meaning of angle of attack, the relationship between pitch, power, trim, and airspeed, effects of "P Factor" and engine torque, adverse yaw, coordinated flight, and more.
10:30 Part II: Stall/Spin Regonition and Upset Recovery Techniques. Johnny White will take you through the procedures to identify and avoid stalls and spins, effective recovery procedures, and upset recovery techniques. You will review the term "maneuvering speed", why it changes throughout your flight, and how to operate safely within your aircraft's "flight envelope".
Your presenter Johnny White is a professional corporate pilot with multiple type ratings. He has also been providing advanced aerobatic flight instruction in an Extra 300 and Pitts Special at VJI. He has presented this seminar at Oshkosh and Sun & Fun. Don't miss this rare opportunity to participate in such an informative seminar.
