Date and Time:
Wednesday, December 5, 2012, starting at 19:00 Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Jim Adams, Paul Carroll, Ken MacDonald
Brief Description:
Attend this exciting event featuring two briefings! At the first we will discuss general aviation takeoff, approach and landing accidents and how best to prevent them. We'll also address operations at tower controlled airports and discuss if pilots are always obligated to follow ATC instructions? The second half of the program will examine the way technology is changing the way we fly. Many pilots are flying with an iPad in the cockpit but still purchase and carry paper charts. Is it considered "safe" to fly with just an iPad? Attend this exciting event featuring two briefings! At the first we will discuss general aviation Takeoff, Approach and Landing accidents and how to prevent them. As part of this discussion, we'll also address operations at tower controlled airports and discuss if pilots are always obligated to follow ATC instructions? For example, when the controller says, "cleared to land" do you have to? What if I am told to "take the next taxiway" and I am going to fast?

The second half of the program will examine the way technology is changing the way we fly. Many pilots are flying with an iPad in the cockpit but still purchase and carry paper charts. Are you safe if you fly with just an iPad? Join this interactive discussion about the good and the bad of flying with an iPad alone. Learn from experienced pilots that use the iPad for their sole source of information. Is it legal? What is your backup system? Some of the topics shared will include preflight planning, obtaining a weather briefing, filing a flight plan, using the moving map feature and a backup plan if the technology fails.

If you are a novice, you will learn about the benefits of the latest technology.  If you are an experienced iPad flyer we invite you to share your knowledge.  Learn about the latest tools of GPS including ADS-B now available on your iPad.
