Event Details and Registration

The FAA Safety Team would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Museum of Flight for its continuous support of the FAA's Safety Programs and tonight's event!  Additionally, our appreciation to the Port of Bellingham for sponsoring and the Western Washington University for hosting the airspace symposium in Bellingham, WA on December 2, 2009.

The Winter Olympic Games will be held this coming January 29 thru March 24, 2010 and the airspace around Vancouver, BC will be very restricted.  Some of the airspace restriction is in the northern part of Washington State and could quite possibly have an impact on your winter flying activities.  All of the restricted airspace will be monitored and protected by NORAD fighters and helicopters from Canada and the U.S.  To fly within the TFR pilots will have to comply with all of the extensive airspace restrictions and requirements.

This approximately two-hour briefing will be conducted by Nav Canada, FAA Special Operations Security, NORAD and Flight Service.  Additionally, if you have specific questions that need to be addressed by SEA Center, Seattle Approach Control, Whidbey Approach Control, Western Air Defense Sector or Customs and Border Protection, there will be representatives from each of these entities to answer your questions.

There are special procedures and transponder codes for the "fringe airports".  These special procedures will enhance your ability to fly to and from seven airfields that are on the southern edge of the TFR.

Driving instructions to Museum of Flight:
Northbound I-5:  Exit 156 Tukwila/W. Marginal Way. Take the Tukwila Int'l Blvd N. Exit. Merge onto Pacific Hwy S/Tukwila Int'l Blvd. Pacific Hwy S. becomes E. Marginal Way S.  End at 9404 E. Marginal Way S. Southbound I-5:  Take exit 158 toward E. Marginal Way.  Keep right at the fork to go onto S. Boeing Access Road.  Turn slight right onto E. Marginal Way S. End at 9404 E. Marginal Way S.

From I-5 northbound take exit 252 for Samish Way towards WWU.  Slight left at S. Samish Way.  Turn left at Abbott Street.  Take the first right onto E. Laurel Street.  Turn left at Indian Street/Indian Terrace.  Slight left at High Street.  High Street turns into Highland Drive.  Turn left at West College Way and follow it to East College Way.  The symposium is being held in Building 50, West Wing, Room 204.
