Have you ever wondered why some pilots seem to almost always make good landings while others... Well, let's just say there is always need to review and always room for improvement. This seminar will review some basic and some not-so-basic principles of making good approaches and landings. The effects of headwinds, tailwinds, crosswinds, and wind shear will be discussed. It will also introduce some airline practices such as briefing the approach (even to one self), making callouts, and the use of additional checklists. A former major airline instructor who is also a general aviation instructor with more than 8,000 hours of general aviation dual given conducts the seminar.
This is an advanced level briefing on approach and landing. Every pilot needs the technical expertise to achieve safe and consistent landings, however, by incorporating some best practices utilized by the airline industry, we can further mitigate the risk and increase the level of safety in GA operations. This program carries one (1) advanced knowledge elective credit in WINGs but is open to pilots of any certificate level. This credit may also be used to meet the basic knowledge elective credit of the FAA Wings Pilot Proficiency Program.
