Title:
The Human Factors Role in Accident Prevention
Topic:
Human Factors Role in the Prevention of Accidents.
Date and Time:
Thursday, October 21, 2021, starting at 19:00 Eastern Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Diego Alfonso
Brief Description:

If there is one thing we can be sure of, it is that as humans we are continuously surrounded by a certain level of risk.  As pilots, that level is raised just a tad higher.  The one thing that all of us who fly need to understand is that our first experiences in transporting ourselves by means of mechanical locomotion on the surface created a vast array of habits, some good and some bad.  In making the transition to transporting ourselves by airborne means, the bad habits already acquired must be discarded completely, because they are just not compatible in this new dimension.

In this hour-long presentation, a series of misconceptions and bad habits are identified.  The misconceptions are clarified, and good habits are brought up to the fore in hopes of replacing the bad ones.

The replacement of bad habits begins by exercising pilot in command responsibilities and decision making during the most important phases of flight.  These encompass the preparation, the pre-flight and departure, followed by decisions during the cruise phase, and finally, the arrival phase.
