It is commonly understood that a Private Pilot will become a better pilot when they earn their Instrument Rating. It is also commonly misunderstood that earning this rating will cause you to fly in weather beyond your abilities. We'll take a look under the hood of this training and explore the Why (and Why Not!), How, When, and more about this training.

Our speaker is Captain Mike Jesch. By night he flies the skies of the Pacific Ocean in the front left seat of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, always flying IFR. But by day he flies a Cessna 182, quite often under IFR. He's been an Instrument pilot since 1982 and an Instrument Instructor since 1985. As an instrument instructor, he specializes in Instrument currency and practice, Instrument Proficiency Checks, and navigation systems.
